Secondary Teacher
 
Teachers hold the most important role in every school.  At Turning Point Christian Academy, your importance can not be overstated relative to the impact on the future of the children that God has entrusted to us. 
 
Our mission is to develop leaders with godly character who impact the world for Jesus Christ.  It takes a positive learning and personal growth environment to develop our Portrait of a Graduate attributes in our students.  We want them to be spiritually mature, an image bearer, a discerning thinker, a servant leader, and gospel minded.
 
Teaching secondary level students requires a special heart for guiding students through the teenage years.  Middle and high school students experience large transitions—academically, socially, and personally.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
Spiritually

• Be a Christian role model
• Allow the Holy Spirit to provide guidance daily
• Guide students in development of Biblical character and citizenship

 
Instructionally

• Develop subject area units of instruction and instructional materials consistent with the school’s mission, Portrait of Graduate, and curriculum maps using high-quality instructional design principles
• Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as whole class, small group, and individualized instruction; lecture and discussion; inquiry and discovery; technology
• Create a range of appropriate assessments; collects evidence of student learning for understandings, knowledge, and skills
• Support the school’s standardized assessment program and use school and student level data to improve instruction
• Differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of each student
• Value instructional minutes by translating lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
• Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports and report cards which for high school students determines a student’s permanent high school transcript
• Participate in the school’s staff development programs and cultivate professional growth through other educational in-service activities
• Keep current with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a productive learning atmosphere in the classroom
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program
• Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
• Supervise students for out-of-classroom activities during the school day
• Participate in faculty committees
• Support school-sponsored student activities
• Provide support to students by providing encouragement and counsel especially to students who have academic struggles

Desired Qualifications
 
Spiritual Qualifications

• Born again believer, has accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and has a growing relationship with the Lord
• Accepts the Bible as the Word of God
• Participation in a local church in agreement with the TPCA statement of faith

 
Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
• Valid Florida teaching credential in subject matter being taught
• Teaching experiences
• Knowledge of relevant technology
• Willingness to attend workshops, courses, and conferences relevant to continuing professional development
