HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Title:    High School English Teacher

 

Reports To:    Principal, English Department Head

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION, FUNCTION, AND DUTIES

Under the high school principal, the teacher is assigned to fulfill the mission of honoring the Lord Jesus Christ which is to equip students with a love for Christ, a passion to learn, the courage to lead, and a commitment to serve. The school administration may assign additional duties or specify other functions that may be appropriate for specific faculty posts.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 

 

PERSONAL BELIEF & BEHAVIOR

 

  • Must be a born-again Christian whose lifestyle and character demonstrate obedience to God and the Bible and express agreement with the school's doctrinal viewpoints, statement of faith, and Christian lifestyle requirements. 

  • Must be able to serve as a positive Christian role model to others in the school context.

  • Must be able to accept and support the school's core beliefs, statement of faith, and doctrine.

  • Must have an understanding of and commitment to SCS's educational objectives and philosophy of education.

  • Must possess sufficient biblical knowledge that enables the individual to integrate Scripture into subjects taught, sports coached, or other job duties assigned, thus imparting to students a biblical worldview position.

  • Must faithfully attend a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the statement of faith and doctrine of this school. 

  • Must affirm that he/she believes that working and ministering in this Christian school would be pleasing to God, would be consistent with his/her purpose in life, and would be good stewardship of his/her time, talent, and professional abilities. 

  • Must enjoy working with young people.

 

Sarasota Christian School is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School English Teacher to join our faculty for the upcoming academic year. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an environment that nurtures both academic excellence and spiritual growth. The teacher will be responsible for delivering English and Literature instruction, creating a positive and engaging classroom experience that integrates faith and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach English and Literature courses to high school students, ensuring a deep understanding of English and writing knowledge.

  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with the school’s Christian values and academic standards.

  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including various learning styles and academic levels.

  • Incorporate biblical principles and Christian perspectives into the teaching of English, encouraging students to explore how faith intersects with the events and people that shaped the past.

  • Assess student progress through assignments, tests, projects, and presentations, providing timely feedback.

  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and spiritual growth.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and overall development.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as required.

  • Uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values in all aspects of the teaching role.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.

  • Experience teaching high school-level English and Literature.

  • Previous experience with Advanced Placement (AP) or dual enrollment courses is preferred, but not required.

  • Strong knowledge of English and Literature curriculum, with an ability to teach both subjects effectively.

  • A commitment to integrating Christian faith and worldview into the teaching of history.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and collaborate with colleagues and parents.

  • Ability to create an organized, engaging, and Christ-centered learning environment.

  • Classroom management skills that promote respect, responsibility, and academic achievement.

  • Active participation in a Christian faith community is required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Clear background check and completion of any required certifications or training as required by the school.

  • A desire to contribute to the broader school community through extracurricular activities and service.
